The 23-year-old has seen himself exiled by United after a very public rift with manager Erik ten Hag, having not made a competitive appearance since August. Talk, then, has raged over a potential escape route from Old Trafford this January window. After the likes of Barcelona dropped their interest, former employers Dortmund led the way, although the finalisation of a deal has stagnated in recent days.

However, journalist Florian Plettenberg has revealed that the move is "almost a done deal" after a breakthrough in talks on Tuesday. Plettenburg notes that it will be a six-month loan, with "only small details to be clarified" until it is made official. United had delayed talks – causing Sancho's private jet to Dortmund's warm-weather training camp to remain grounded – over the inclusion of a buy-back option, and the reports this element has now been removed.
DID YOU KNOW?
Despite offloading a significant portion of deadwood – alongside fellow flop Anthony Martial – the deal is not entirely positive for United. The same report from the notes that the club will have to fork out a third of Sancho's near £300,000 ($381,000)-a-week salary, meaning they will be paying Dortmund up to £100,000 ($127,000) to have him off their hands.

That will, of course, still alleviate a significant financial burden of a player who has never lived up to his £75 million ($95m) price tag. For Sancho, though, it is a chance to jump start his career back into life, as he rejoins a club where he recorded an incredible 114 goal contributions in 137 appearances. Both he and United, who will aim to land some return on their hefty investment, will hope he can emulate even a fraction of this form second time around.
