Keane left Old Trafford in 2005 after an explosive interview with MUTV where he lambasted his team-mates was intercepted before it made it to the airwaves. Keane's contract was was cancelled by mutual consent, something that the Ireland international could understand, but the nature of the final meeting with manager Ferguson and chief executive David Gill still irks Keane nearly two decades on.

Recalling the end to his time at Old Trafford on The Overlap's podcast from Sky Bet, Keane said: "I got called into a meeting with Ferguson and Gill and before I sat down they say: 'Here we go, we've already prepared a statement, would you like to read it?' And they had the years wrong!"
Keane went on to reveal that that statement said he had been at the club for 11 and a half years when he had in fact served for a year longer.
